Sintra, what to visit - 1 day itinerary

If fairy tales became real, Sintra would be the land of enchantment where they would happen. Less than an hour from Lisbon, Sintra competes with world-famous destinations in the category of the most romantic cities in Europe.

Deciding what to do in Sintra in 1 day is not an easy task, after all, we are talking about the city of castles. But, for those who have little time on their itinerary and don't want to miss the opportunity to get to know the old Portuguese village, it is possible to make a short and useful itinerary.

1. Pena Palace

Start the day by avoiding the crowds and visiting Pena Palace first thing in the morning. The Pena Palace was the first romantic palace in Europe, built around 30 years before the emblematic Schloss Neuschwanstein, in Bavaria. This visit requires calm as there is a lot of walking. The building also draws attention because it is all colorful, which gives the palace even more beauty.

2. Quinta da Regaleira

Anyone who likes a bit of mystery needs to include Quinta da Regaleira in their day trip to Sintra! In addition to contact with nature and unique architecture, this farm has several interesting stories. It's perfect to visit after lunch!

3. Palace of the Moors

One of the main attractions of your 1-day itinerary in Sintra will be the Castelo dos Mouros. The imposing castle, built in the 10th century, is of such great importance that it was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The visit requires a little breathing space, as you will have to walk a lot between areas of the castle. The best thing is to visit the towers and have an incredible view of the city!
