5 hidden beaches just around the corner from Lisbon

The Portuguese coast has more than 300 beaches with the Blue Flag and more than 200 considered Accessible Beach, presenting itself as a fine white sand framing the Atlantic ocean.

By the river or by the sea, today we present five beaches in Lisbon and surroundings (just one hour away), where tranquility lives. Away from the hustle and bustle, close to nature, this summer has everything you need to relax on the sand, float in calm waters or try out water sports.

Baleal beach, Peniche

Surfers from all over the world have been gathering on this beach for a long time and going to the famous Bar do Bruno, next to the Surf School. In Baleal, this is the ideal beach bar for surfing, making friends and eating a hamburger. There's nothing better than replenishing your energy after a good surf session!

Ursa beach, Sintra

If it's not the most “secret” beach, it certainly is one of the wildest. Sought after by those who enjoy a good walk, the access trails to this beach offer magnificent coastal landscapes, where nature remains intact. You will feel like you are in paradise!

Foz Beach, Sesimbra

Sesimbra is a very popular place during the summer. What many people don't know, however, is that Sesimbra has several hidden beaches as if they were relics. This is one of them. Wild and almost deserted, Praia da Foz is at the gates of the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park. If you are looking for a peaceful oasis, away from the hustle and bustle, but close to nature, you have come to the right place.

Portinho da Arrabida Beach, Arrabida

Less than one hour from Lisbon, there is a natural paradise that joins the mountains and the sea. The beaches of Serra da Arrábida are one of our favorite places when summer comes. The Mediterranean vegetation and clear waters make Praia do Portinho da Arrábida a true haven of beauty and simplicity. In 2010 it was considered one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal!

Santo Amaro beach, Oeiras

This is the largest beach in the municipality of Oeiras. Perfect for a long day at the beach close to town. It has toilets, showers with walkways and even eco-ashtrays. It also has good conditions for surfing, bodyboarding and kitesurfing.

We hope this list helps you discover Lisbon and enjoy this summer as best as possible!
