Visiting Sintra is an experience not to be missed during your trip to Lisbon. With a cultural landscape distinguished by UNESCO as world heritage in 1995, Sintra is a true fairy tale. With some of the most beautiful palaces in Portugal, extravagant villas and surrounded by greenery, it feels like you're in a dream you don't want to wake up from!
An the best thing is that is about 30 minutos by car from Lisbon. Alternativelly, it can be reached also by train from Lisbon.
So, how to spend a perfect day visiting Sintra?
First stop: Biester Palace
The Biester Palace is located in the heart of Sintra, perfectly integrated in the stunning scenery that made the town of Sintra famous as the world capital of Romanticism.
The Palace is surrounded by a wonderful botanical park.
Second stop: Pena Palace
Pena Palace is the most popular palace in Sintra, and probably in all of Portugal. The vivid shades of yellow, red and lavender from the towers of this romantic palace travel the world.
The best viewpoint at the Pena Palace is at Cruz Alta with incredible views over the entire
palace complex, the Serra de Sintra and the beautiful sea on the horizon!
Third Stop: Praia das Maçãs
Praia das Maçãs is a must stop, especially during the summer.
And you're in luck because the Sintra Tramway started running again this Tuesday, June 27th. The route connects the village to Praia das Maças and passes through the region's typical romantic landscapes, flowers and monuments. The tram travels around 11 kilometers, in a trip that lasts 45 minutes and each ticket is 3 euros.

About 150 meters above sea level, Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of mainland Europe.
From here you can enjoy beautiful landscapes, such as the Serra de Sintra and the coast and finish the day with a beautiful sunset.
