WHY THE NAME LUENA?
The choice of the name Luena was inspired by the town of Luena in Angola and was a tribute to a family member who decided to move from Angola to Portugal.

The history of the hotel dates back to 1973, when Alexandre Torradas and Ana Nunes bought a floor of the building and began to receive guests in the eight-room boarding house Pensão Luena.
Seeing great potential in this location, they decided to expand the business and buy the remaining floors. By 1983, Luena had 42 rooms.
Alexandre and Ana’s daughters Genoveva and Maria de Lurdes continued the family business with great success.
In 2015, after a total reconstruction of the building, the boarding house was replaced by the 3-star Hotel Luena. When the building reopened in 2015, Genoveva’s daughters Leonor and Ana Cristina became the third generation to run the accommodation.
In 2021, the tradition remained and the 4th generation joined the Hotel Luena with Catherine Rodrigues, Flavia Figueiredo and Bernhard Huber. This new generation combines an extensive international experience of more than 25 years and trainings in the hotel management area. Joining the team’s tradition and work experience with technological development, the focus of the Hotel Luena remains: to provide a memorable family stay for all guests.
