Lisbon has all the wonders of the world. From the gastronomy, to the incredible views, streets that look like they came out of a movie, and a lot of art scattered among them.
Today we are going to talk about some of the most beautiful pieces of Street Art in Lisbon! We started a tour early in the morning, leaving from the Hotel Luena and we decided to embark on this adventure on foot as there is nothing better than starting the morning experiencing the life that this city has to offer!
First stop: The Mural of Mariana Duarte, Intendente
The first stop on our list is the Mural made by Mariana Duarte Santos, located in Intendente, 10 minutes from Hotel Luena.
Super easy to locate, just go down the famous Avenida Almirante Reis and eventually, this work will appear right next to us, which represents a grocer from a traditional store that once existed in this area of the parish, in the 50s, reminding us of everyone who spends there people’s lives, uses and traditions, as well as the memories of people who once existed.
Second Stop: Fado Vadio, Mouraria
The second piece on the list is the famous mural – Fado Vadio. About 45 minutes on foot from the Hotel Luena, and 20 minutes from the first stop on this adventure, in the Mouraria neighbourhood, you will find the São Cristóvão stairs, where a collective of artists created the impressive mural “Fado Vadio”.
It is a tribute to fado, the iconic music of Lisbon that is considered World Heritage and is one of the places in the city that you cannot miss. On several walls, the symbols and protagonists of the history of fado multiply. Come and discover them and bring your camera, as the tour in itself is wonderful.
Third Stop: Calçada da Amália, Alfama
The third stop is the famous Calçada Amália, in Alfama, just beside São Jorge Castle! It is a typically Portuguese path, with many climbs and overlooking the entire city, going around the Castle of São Jorge. 15 minutes on foot from the second stop, Fado Vadio.
This work portrays the queen of Fado, Amália Rodrigues. Her image is immortalized on the Portuguese pavement – a work by the artist Vhils.
Fourth Stop: Pelicanos de Bordalo II, Rossio
The fourth stop was the Pelicanos work in Rossio, next to the Santa Justa Elevator. It’s a very pleasant walk on the way back from Calçada da Amália, as this time it’s always downhill, and it’s about a 20-minute walk.
Made by the Portuguese artist known as Bordalo II who became famous for using street trash to create stunning animal sculptures, with the purpose of warning people about pollution and all kinds of endangered species.
This Obra is located on a very busy street, with a variety of musicians, several merchants selling jewellery, lots of shops scattered all over the place and delicious Portuguese ice cream parlours!
And that’s how this wonderful tour ended, where we walked through several ancient parts of Lisbon that fill our hearts with beauty.
A tour that we strongly recommend to our dear guests!
